Koh Phra Thong, literally translated as Golden Buddha Island, is one of a handful of remote and relatively undeveloped islands in Thailand’s Andaman Sea. Although it is the fifth largest island, it is one of the most scarcely populated. Most of the island’s inhabitants migrated following World War II. The population consists of both ethnic Thais and the Molken (the semi-nomadic Sea Gypsy people of the Andaman.) The population of around 800 people is mostly concentrated in the small fishing town of Tapayoi and Bak Jok. Aside from these two small communities the island is virtually uninhabited and is one of the last unspoilt costal areas in all of Thailand.

Koh Phra Thong is known by a select few as one of the most private, beautiful, and unique islands in all of Thailand. On the far Western shore lies Golden Buddha Beach. It’s 10 kilometers of pristine, undeveloped beachfront rank of one of the top beaches in all of Thailand. The secluded and exclusive nature of this beach only adds to it’s allure.

Located on the very tip of this private beach is Golden Buddha Beach Resort, the only resort on the entire island. Golden Buddha Beach Resort is a remote eco-resort made up of twenty unique villas. Each one is built using local materials, some with sea views and others located directly on the beach. An authentic Thai restaurant, bar, and café are part of the resort. The friendly local staff and all of the amenities of a world class resort make Golden Buddha Beach Resort a top ecotourism destination in Thailand.

The Koh Ra Ecolodge (at the Koh Ra Nature Beach Resort) is located in the Andaman Sea of southern Thailand. If you are looking for a truly unique nature experience in Thailand, then we invite you to stay with us on Koh Ra and explore the pristine jungle, private beach, coral reefs and hidden bays of this amazing island. Our goal is to offer guests a simple yet comfortable place to stay in the heart of the most natural stretch of coastline remaining in Thailand, and the closest island to world-renowned Surin National Park. We strive to do this in a way that helps protect and even improve the local environment and provide benefits to the local communities that depend on the natural resources here.

We offer a variety of affordable ecotour activities including diving, hiking, sea kayaking, Thai cooking and more, with simple yet comfortable bungalows from which to base yourselves. The lodge is also home to an active ecological research program, in collaboration with Reef Check Thailand and other local non-profit groups that offer volunteers a chance to participate in environmental and community projects.

Our facilities include 18 bungalow-style rooms with clean lines, direct access to the beach, and private baths. A central lodge with restaurant and common area is tucked under the old growth jungle canopy on a private beach and bay.
